Construction will begin on February 20th to improve the safety and flow of traffic along Highway 101. The $3-million-dollar project includes upgrading a traffic signal on Flanagan Road, rebuilding sidewalks and ADA curb ramps, replacing streetlights, and adding a new pedestrian crossing through the concrete islands at the Coos River Highway intersection. Currently, cracks and the condition of the sidewalks do not meet the requirements of the American Disabilities Act. Officials also stated that the traffic signal was installed in the 1980s and has neared the end of its design life. The entirety of the construction will be nighttime with occasional lane closures in the project areas.
