Hours Long Standoff Ends In One Dead

A man suspected of involvement in a Springfield Homicide was shot and killed following a standoff in Reedsport last night. The incident closed Highway 101 for several hours. Area Law Enforcement initiated a traffic stop and detained another person in the vehicle when the driver who was allegedly armed grew hostile. At about 7:34 PM, Deputies on scene requested that a perimeter be set and media and public avoid the area closing the highway. Negotiators attempted to deescalate the situation for hours according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. At 10:44 PM shots were fired and the suspect was pronounced dead by EMS. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and an update is forthcoming. Meanwhile, Springfield Police believe the suspect that was shot was allegedly involved in the murder of Richard Marshall last week at the Food For Lane County Youth Farm. The 70-year-old Marshall was the onsite volunteer caretaker of the farm.
