The Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, and the City of Coos Bay have announced the development of the Hollering Place Cultural Center has been placed on indefinite hold. The center was slated to be located at the culturally significant site on the corner of Newmark and Empire Boulevard. The tribe announced the COVID crisis has significantly impacted its ability to proceed with the development of the property. The transfer of the upper bluff was completed in June following an agreement between the URA and Tribe to construct a seawall on the lower bluff to protect the lower bluff property. The lower bluff property was also slated to be developed by the tribe. The lower lot ownership will now remain with the Coos Bay URA that will explore other development options. If completed in the future, the cultural center would be home to historical and cultural exhibits. It would also serve as a location to share Tribal Culture.
