Bottle Redemption Center Seeks Approval for Coos Bay Location

The Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative is seeking approval to site a Beverage Container Redemption Center in Coos Bay. The proposed location is off of Teakwood Avenue. If approved by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission the site would provide bottle and can redemption services and pay a ten-cent refund per container. Beverage Container Redemption Centers, more commonly known as “BottleDrop” would provide services in two zones. Coos Bay and North Bend Stores in Zone 1 would no longer accept returnable containers. Those include Fred Meyer, Safeway, Walgreens, downtown McKay’s Market, Bi-Mart, and Big Lots. McKay’s Market and Grocery Outlet in Empire would continue accepting up to 24 returnable containers per day. The main redemption center will allow redemption of up to 350 containers per person per day through the self-serve machines. They will also allow up to 15 bags for each account in a single quarter. If approved, the center will open as early as Spring of 2022.
