A man is in custody on multiple charges after eluding police for nearly two hours. A Sheriff Deputy was responding to an unrelated call on Seven Devils Road yesterday around 1:30 PM when a black Honda driving at an excessive speed allegedly came around a sharp corner in the deputy’s lane nearly hitting him head-on. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop and a vehicle pursuit began. The driver made an illegal U-turn and attempted to crash into the deputy’s vehicle for a second time. The suspect later identified as 29-year-old Chance Michael Hollingsworth of Coos Bay fled, exiting his vehicle and attempting to get into another occupied vehicle. As deputies caught up with Hollingsworth, he began to show the handle of a firearm but turned and ran into deep brush. K9 Cena was called to track the suspect for about two hours and over four miles of rugged terrain where she located him hiding in brush near Sunset Golf Course. Hollingsworth was transported to the Coos County Jail and held on charges of Parole Board Warrant, Reckless Driving, Elude by Vehicle, Elude by Foot, Second-Degree Escape, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Second-Degree Attempted Assault.
