The Bureau of Land Management has released plans to open the campground and day-use area starting this summer. According to officials, the plan was to open the site for Memorial Day Weekend, however construction is not complete. BLM has installed a new water treatment system, and a new bathroom in the day use area. BLM is also working to get campsites and the day use area ready is near completion. The Loon Lake Recreation Area has been closed since 2019 due to heavy snow that toppled trees and destroyed the water treatment system and bathroom. Coos Bay District Manager for BLM, Steve Lydick says he is excited with the progress. Visitors can check for repairs at recreation.gov.
