The state is “pausing” Coos County at Moderate Risk for another week. The notification comes as COVID infection numbers continue to rise in the county. The number of confirmed and presumptive cases has steadily increased as the county continued to open up after moving from “high” to “moderate” risk on May 7th. The numbers Monday were high enough to send the county back to “High Risk”. A Governor’s office spokesperson said the decision to keep the county’s risk paused was made because of the short amount of time the county has had since moving down in risk. Numbers will continue to be monitored and next week will be a movement week if cases continue to rise. Local public health officials say the increase was somewhat expected, however, they hope the numbers will now stabilize and return to declining in order to help local businesses.
