BAH Restricts Elective Surgeries Due to COVID Surge

Bay Area Hospital officials now say the COVID unit is full and ICU capacity is now very limited. Bay Area Hospital spokeswoman, Kim Winker says because of the worsening situation, the hospital is now delaying all elective surgeries that would require an in-patient bed.
Earlier this month, the hospital restricted visitors in the Emergency Room with some exceptions for minors, people with disabilities, and special circumstances. Those along with the newest restrictions will allow the limited staff to focus time and attention on direct patient care.
Winker says the hospital continues to experience issues transferring patients requiring higher care to other hospitals. The state reported 1,000 patients hospitalized with COVID across Oregon. There are 283 COVID-19 patients in Intensive Care Units beds. That is an increase of 30 from yesterday. 99% of cases are the Delta variant. Statewide, only 7% of adult ICU beds remain available. That translates to 45 out of 667 adult ICU beds available in the state.
