City of Coos Bay Provides Law Enforcement Administrative Assistance to North Bend

The City of Coos Bay will provide law enforcement administrative assistance to the City of North Bend following Wednesday’s abrupt resignation of the police command staff. North Bend City Administrator, David Milliron reached out to the City of Coos Bay and secured an agreement for police administration. Former Police Chief Robert Kappelman and Captain Curt Bennett resigned effective 5 PM on Wednesday giving only hours’ notice to city officials. Coos Bay City Manager, Rodger Craddock confirmed the police department will provide administration services in the interim while North Bend seeks to permanently fill the chief’s position. Coos Bay Police Chief Chris Chapanar will provide oversight over both departments and Captain Mike Shaffer will provide day-to-day administrative services. Milliron says once the city has a roadmap and the police department is stabilized, they can begin the process of recruiting and hiring a new police chief.
