Coos County Commissioners held a public meeting today to take public comments after two of the three commissioners walked out of yesterday’s scheduled meeting. The meeting was held virtually after a group attending the in-person meeting refused to wear masks in the meeting room. Commissioners John Sweet and Melissa Cribbins left the meeting following outbursts from the audience while other members of the public were making public comments. Comments during today’s meeting ranged from being outraged by the two commissioners’ behavior to others calling on the three commissioners to defy the state mask mandates. Some were supportive of commissioners for following the governor’s latest ruling regarding masks in government buildings. About 60 people attended the meeting virtually. Commissioner Bob Main, who did not wear a mask in yesterday’s meeting, addressed the safety concerns from Cribbins saying the Sheriff and a deputy were present in Tuesday’s meeting and he did not feel unsafe or threatened. Following public comments this morning, the meeting was adjourned.
