A Burn to Learn will happen at the Madison Street Community Church on October 2nd. The church was purchased by the Coos Bay School District however it was in poor condition. The Coos Bay Fire Department will light a fire within the building to observe the growth and spread and then extinguish the fire. The process will be done multiple times until the structure is too damaged to allow firefighters inside. The use of the dilapidated building allows for firefighters to learn new skills and provides invaluable training for new and veteran firefighters.
