Coos Health and Wellness has reported 20 new presumptive and positive COVID cases since yesterday bringing the total to 511 active cases over the last 14 days with 226 under monitoring. Since August 1st the county has had 798 cases, that includes 36 cases in children under the age of 9 and 69 cases in children between 10 and 19 years old. The county has also had seven outbreaks that started near the end of July or early August. That included Life Care Center, Avamere, Evergreen Court, Southport Lumber, Shutter Creek Correctional Institute, Hardin Optical, and Pacific View Senior Living Community which also resulted in five deaths. Officials say some of the outbreaks would resolve soon, however they were unable to identify which ones. Dr. Eric Gleason also said we are in a crisis that is like a wildfire and at this time they’re unsure how much fuel is left to burn.
