Southwestern Oregon Community College has announced the 2021 Distinguished alumnus honor will go to Coquille Tribal Chief Donald Ivy. Ivy has held that position since 2014 after being nominated by educators, tribal leaders, former Lawmakers, and Oregon’s Governor. According to SWOCC President Patty Scott, Ivy came to the college in the mid-1990s to learn about the land, history, and philosophy. She added he has used that knowledge to become a teacher for us all. This is the 30th year Southwestern has honored alumni who have demonstrated significant contributions to their professions, communities, or academia.
