COVID 19 Variant Found In Coos County by Oregon Health Authority

Coos County is now in its 11th week of being in the Extreme Category based on state guidelines for COVID. Earlier today, Coos Health and Wellness reported that a COVID 19 Variant is in the community. Specific details about the variant type were not available because the state is still investigating to determine the origin. Dr. Eric Gleason says the variant could have been in the area for a while and may have led to high infection numbers for Coos County in February and March. Variants have been shown to be more infectious. Gleason says despite the variant discovery, the protocol has not changed. He encourages people to wear a mask, wash hands, social distance and get a vaccine.
