High School Teacher Charged with Encouraging Child Sex Abuse

A High School Teacher has been arrested and charged with First and Second Degree Encouraging Child Sex Abuse. Coquille Police say 31-year-old Kory Lee Sturgess was taken into custody following the execution of the warrant on a Coquille Residence. According to a press release, the arrest stems from the alleged possession and manufacture of images depicting underage persons in sexually explicit manners. The release also states Sturgess is employed as a math teacher and there were allegedly special concerns for the safety of people and youth of the Coquille area. Coquille High School would not confirm Sturgess is a teacher at the school, however, he is listed on the district’s website. District Officials also would not confirm the employment of Sturgess because they said it is a personal matter. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Doug Miller at Coquille Police Department.
