A man facing murder charges from multiple North Bend incidents in June 2021 appeared in court to request he be allowed to legally represent himself. 30-year-old Oen Evan Nicholson fired his public defender and appeared at a hearing this morning to request Judge Martin Stone allow him to represent himself. Nicholson is charged with killing four people at the Mill Casino RV Park and a marijuana dispensary in June last year. Stone recommended a competency exam be completed before allowing the request. He also told Nicholson by representing himself would be at a disadvantage. Court officials say the exam has not been scheduled. Because of issues surrounding COVID, it is not known when it be completed. The only court date set is the trial for 2023.
