A Coos County teenager died and another was seriously injured after the vehicle they were traveling in left the Powers Highway sometime last night and struck a tree. The 15-year-old female passenger in the Mazda MZ7 sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The 16-year-old driver from Broadbent was severely injured and life-flighted to Riverbend Hospital in Springfield after being transported to Coquille Valley Hospital. Oregon State Police say the car was discovered shortly before 5:00 am this morning at milepost 1 on Highway 242 near the Highway 42 junction. The Myrtle Point School District has two counselors available for students and staff until 5 o’clock today at the high school stadium. First Christian Church is also available for anyone who needs that assistance.
