The Coquille Indian Tribe hosted Governor Kate Brown today on a tour of several facilities in Bandon and Coos Bay. A spokesman for the Tribe says the tours were partly educational to showcase the salmon restoration partnership with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Ko-Kwel Wellness Center. Oregon’s Fish and Wildlife Commission is considering the tribe’s proposal for co-management of the Coquille River watershed. Governor Brown admired both the building and the tribe’s holistic efforts to offer diversified care under one roof. The wellness center offers medical, dental, and behavioral health care, as well as social services for tribal families and an in-house pharmacy. Tribal Chair Brenda Meade called the visit a great one. Main Photo: Coquille Tribal Chairman Brenda Meade, left, shares a conversation with Oregon Gov. Kate Brown on the Bandon waterfront.
