Officials say one person died after their vehicle left the roadway and went into the Coos River early this morning. According to Coos County Sheriff Craig Zanni, the victim 60-year-old Dora S. Hargrove was found inside the vehicle after it was removed from the river. She was pronounced dead at the scene. 9-1-1 Dispatchers received a call at 7:48 this morning. When law enforcement arrived on scene, they found skid marks on the roadway but no vehicle. Divers were called to the scene to locate the vehicle. The medical examiner will make a final determination on the cause of death but Zanni believes it was likely drowning. He added emergency crews were delayed because of other emergency incidents throughout the county. That included a fire at the Bachelor’s Inn in Bunker Hill where fire hoses were across the roadway. Zanni says it is unfortunate that people on social media had already started calling the family before a formal notification of next of kin had been made. The investigation is continuing.
